M5 Max MacBook Pro draws over 100W under load, stock Apple charger may not keep up
AaronBergman18 · x · 2026-10-17
Users report the MacBook Pro M5 Max regularly pulls over 100W under normal heavy jobs (GPU near 100%, bright screen), meaning Apple's bundled charger and cable may not sustain the battery. An older M1 Pro, by contrast, could run a 15W HDD fine on a 60W charger; an external SSD only draws 1W. Heavy-workload buyers should mind their power setup.
