Citigroup bars third-party AI agents as banks fear $47B deposit flight
rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-10-17
Per the Financial Times, Citigroup now blocks third-party AI agents from logging into customer accounts or moving money, with Bank of America imposing similar limits after JPMorgan Chase's crackdown — Jamie Dimon warned thousands of "rogue agents" could otherwise operate inside the bank. The deeper threat is funding: rate-comparing agents could move cash from 0.1% checking accounts to fintech accounts paying 3.3–5%. JPMorgan, BofA and Wells Fargo hold $1.6T in non-interest deposits; paying 3% would cost $47B a year, nearly half their combined earnings.
