Neuron counts grow exponentially, but parameters grow faster
JacobHHilton · x · 2026-10-17
Jacob Hilton offers a structural argument: even with good descriptions of every neuron, full understanding is doomed—neuron counts grow exponentially, but parameter counts follow a faster exponential, so the ratio of explained to total is falling exponentially. Per-neuron explanation inherently falls behind as models scale.
