OpenAI's first custom AI chip Jalapeño makes TIME's Best Inventions of 2026

OpenAI announced that Jalapeño, its first custom AI-acceleration chip designed from scratch with Broadcom, has been named to TIME's Best Inventions of 2026 list (special mentions). The chip is purpose-built to power the LLMs behind ChatGPT and Codex, with Broadcom handling production. VP of Hardware Richard Ho said OpenAI will keep innovating "across our full stack from model to silicon" as AI demand grows.
