Model PMs earn a $345K median base, 60% above non-AI PMs

Aakash Gupta scraped 1,177 open PM postings across 95 company career pages and sorted them by what the PM actually works on. Model PMs command a $345K median base — 60% above PMs outside AI ($216K) — with a similar gap at mid, senior, and staff levels, before equity (a big part of package at labs).
Median base by sub-field: Model PM $345K > AI-native PM $258K > AI platform PM $231K > Applied AI PM $222K > non-AI PM $216K.
The premium comes from skill scarcity: Madhu Guru, who led product for Gemini, Veo and Nano Banana, estimates fewer than 75 people globally have the required depth — a rare combination of model knowledge and PM craft.
His paid long-form guide covers what a model PM is, background analysis of current model PMs, who's hiring and what they look for, what the job is like inside top labs, key skills, the toolkit, and how to land the role.
