Dowse: free open-source app finds local files by describing them with EmbeddingGemma 2
Glass-Garden-5888 · reddit · 2026-10-17
A developer built Dowse, a free open-source Windows app on top of Google DeepMind's EmbeddingGemma 2, which unifies text, image, audio and video in one embedding space and runs on-device. You can find files by describing them — "electricity bill from March", "photos of a yellow tram in Lisbon" — with results pointing to the relevant PDF page or moment in a recording. Files never leave your PC. It's an early unsigned release, so SmartScreen will warn on install; the author advises downloading only from the GitHub release and verifying the SHA-256 checksum.
