PSMcpServer: Drop a PowerShell Script in a Folder and It Becomes a Live MCP Tool
dfinke · x · 2026-10-17
Doug Finke, a 16-time Microsoft MVP, will demo PSMcpServer — a native PowerShell streamable-HTTP MCP server — at the NYC Agentic AI meetup on Oct 22.
Key ideas:
- Drop a plain PowerShell script into a folder and it appears as a tool in your AI chat seconds later — no restart, no reconnect, no glue code
- The server parses param blocks to auto-build tool schemas; -Watch keeps the folder live, updating the tool list on file add/edit
- Existing modules become tools; piping Get-Command into one cmdlet yields a curated tool config
- A few lines of PowerShell render sortable tables and live forms inside chat, no HTML/JS
- The most interesting bit: if the agent can write scripts to that folder, it can extend its own toolbox mid-session
He also built it all without hand-writing plumbing, including handing the hardest bug to an AI with computer use.
