Hyperscalers to pour $690 billion into cloud and AI infrastructure in 2026

Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Oracle are collectively set to spend up to $690 billion on cloud and AI infrastructure in 2026 — data centers, GPUs, custom accelerators, cooling, networking, and power. Short-term the spending is justified: demand is real, capacity is constrained, and shortages show up as higher prices and longer lead times. But the author warns that today's panic buying could become tomorrow's underutilized infrastructure, since AI workloads and model efficiency are still evolving rapidly.
