OpenAI and Anthropic Put $15M into Math Community Fund to Repair Relations
智东西 · wechat · 2026-10-16
OpenAI and Anthropic, together with the Simons Foundation, are putting $15M into helping mathematicians evaluate AI-assisted research and learn AI tools — OpenAI contributing $5M, Anthropic undisclosed. The move follows OpenAI's math-community controversies: claims of solving a 'Millennium Prize-level' problem with 10,000 agents in 88 hours, a statement signed by 25 Fields medalists including Terence Tao, and a dump of 719 AI-generated math manuscripts with only 42% of top-level results verified in Lean. Anthropic separately published externally reviewed Riemann zeta function progress raising a lower bound from 41.6% to 67.2%.
