nano-vLLM: a from-scratch mini LLM inference engine with paged KV cache
Broad-Mirror3873 · reddit · 2026-10-16
A developer open-sourced nano-vLLM, a small LLM inference engine built from scratch to learn how vLLM works. Implemented so far: continuous batching, paged KV cache with a shared memory pool, prefix caching with block sharing, a streaming inference API, and correctness tests against Hugging Face plus a separate benchmarking baseline. The author flags current limitations (KV gather path, sequential prefill) and is soliciting architectural feedback and suggestions for the next optimization.
