Meta's commitments jumped to $349B in a quarter as server memory prices tripled ahead of Oct 21 earnings

Meta carries $82B in infrastructure commitments due in 2027 with no 2027 capex guidance yet, and its total contractual commitments jumped from $238B to $349B in a single quarter, plus $68B in new long-term data center leases signed in July. A 32GB server memory module now costs $2,176, up from $715 in January, with DDR5 spot prices up 48% since mid-July. Meta reports Oct 21: if it names memory inflation as a 2027 cost driver, that's a signal for Micron, SK hynix and Samsung; if it stresses more servers and networking gear, demand extends across the broader hardware chain. Likely some of both.
