Mealsight Open-Sourced: Photo-Based Meal Analysis With a Confidence Gate That Admits Unknowns
HowDevelop · x · 2026-10-16
Developer HowDevelop shared more on Mealsight, the MIT-licensed open-source version of his in-progress Tend nutrition app: photograph a meal and get a breakdown that admits what it doesn't know. It combines Nebius vision and language models with Gradium speech, plus a confidence gate that asks for clarification on uncertain identifications and refuses non-food images. The author stresses photos can't reveal every ingredient or exact portion, and positions the tool as a daily aid alongside medical guidance. Code is on GitHub for others to build on.
