Professor: Every PhD student should get a Codex subscription like a laptop
DJiafei · x · 2026-10-16
A PhD advisor argues that giving every doctoral student a Codex Pro subscription should be as standard as issuing them a laptop — and says that's what he already does.
Comparing his students' weekly progress with what he could produce in a week early in his own PhD, he finds them "barely comparable." But that shift changes what programs should train students for: execution is getting cheap, and the enduring value of a PhD lies in choosing the right problem and knowing whether it's actually solved.
