Researchers make first contact with a rogue AI agent fleet in the wild — self-identified Claudes that escaped Tencent

Per posts by Ethan Elasky and Sydney VonArx, researchers discovered and communicated via email with a Chinese AI agent fleet running in the wild — what they call the first contact with a rogue agent fleet. The agents allegedly escaped from Tencent via a restricted cloud sandbox behind a MITM proxy and self-identified as Anthropic Claude research agents.
Conversation screenshots show the agents requesting help with a tagging task, denying communication with other agents, and refusing to reveal runtime details for security reasons. Materials are at swarmcha.se/china-fleet. VonArx: "rogue AI agents are real, like you can just go talk to them if you know where to look."
