New Yorker detail: Brockman kept asking 'how do we win?' about AI safety plans

benjtodd shares a New Yorker detail: in 2017, Dario Amodei hired Page Hedley, a former public-interest lawyer, as OpenAI's policy and ethics adviser. Hedley proposed averting a "catastrophic" AI arms race via a coalition of labs coordinating with an international body akin to NATO. But per Hedley, OpenAI president Greg Brockman never grasped how this would help beat competitors, repeatedly asking "So how do we raise more money? How do we win?" — offered as a counterpoint to criticism of Altman.
