OpenUI Lang 1.0 ships: agents stream a compact language that renders real clickable UI
lmoroney · x · 2026-10-16
OpenUI is a generative UI framework where the model streams a compact language (OpenUI Lang) that React, Vue, Svelte, or Angular runtimes render into pre-defined components — aimed at agent apps and copilots. Version 1.0 adds:
- Custom functions via defineFunction (e.g. @Percent), with prop-style type checking; failed calls evaluate to null instead of breaking the page. Built-ins now use the same mechanism with typed prompt signatures.
- Custom actions via defineAction, received by the client's onAction handler with typed params (e.g. @CopyToClipboard).
- Syntax simplification: single actions no longer need the Action([...]) wrapper.
- A message format for storing responses and a library.extend mechanism.
