Grady Booch: LLMs can't reason, P(doom) near zero, real fear is power-grabbing billionaires
Grady_Booch · x · 2026-10-16
Software legend Grady Booch lays out his views: the mind is likely computable, but large language models are incapable of reasoning — at best unreliable narrators, at worst generators of bullshit at scale. He sees symbolic-neural fusion as a desirable path. He doesn't fear superintelligence itself; he fears billionaires and companies promoting that narrative to expand power and control. Contemporary frontier models are valuable yet dangerous, but replicating the mind is not imminent. His P(doom) is as close to zero as one can get.
