MCPJam engineer asks how to test if ChatGPT plugins actually see latest UI selection
Paoli99 · reddit · 2026-10-16
An engineer at MCPJam is seeking advice on testing ChatGPT plugins where the model should act on the current UI selection — e.g., a user clicks a different recipe in the UI and asks "can I duplicate this one?" without ever naming it in chat.
His planned test setup:
- Log what's selected on screen, what context update the UI sends, and which recipe the model names or passes to a tool
- Switch between two recipes rapidly before sending the message
He also flags a debugging subtlety: the UI sending the right update doesn't prove the model received it, and asking "which recipe?" is a different outcome from confidently acting on the wrong one.
