Anthropic's slowdown overblown: August still grew MoM, frontier workloads stay sticky
FinanceYF5 · x · 2026-10-16
A rebuttal to the "Anthropic slowdown" narrative argues the market is overreacting:
- August is peak holiday season when token consumption should drop, yet both OpenAI and Anthropic still posted solid month-over-month growth;
- OpenAI's September Astra release naturally pulled some trial budgets, but that's not structural share loss;
- Quoted Tech Fund shared first-hand experience from a large coding project: Astra is smart, but Opus 5.5 was far more productive to work with, and Anthropic's new Fable is coming;
- Token demand is still early — Anthropic likely keeps strong share of the most advanced workloads, where most industry ARR concentrates, while open models dominate standardized tasks with more tokens but lower margins.
