Skywork Open-Sources Matrix-Game 4.0: Game Engine Owns Physics, Model Paints Pixels
lmoroney · x · 2026-10-16
Skywork open-sourced Matrix-Game 4.0, pairing an executable game engine with a causal, few-step video model. The engine owns gameplay, physics, and player input; the model streams detailed frames from the engine's clean low-poly RGB, with HUD and sound as separate frame-aligned layers. Three scene models ship day one (Medieval Castle, Ancient Egypt for third-person shooting; City Racing for driving). Inference code, a browser demo, and game sources are public; scene weights and assets are on Hugging Face under Apache-2.0. Each checkpoint is 5B BF16 params, with an RTX 5090-optimized path (FP8 linears, fused kernels, CUDA graphs). The model card admits limits: renderers are scene-specific, appearance can drift on unseen geometry or long sessions, and neural output doesn't affect collision or gameplay.
