Meta's open-weight Muse Spark Open (816B) costs tens of thousands to run locally
ZeroCool86 · reddit · 2026-10-16
Meta released Muse Spark Open, an open-weight agent model with 816B parameters (42B active), 1M-token context, and multimodal input. Weights are 537GB at 4-bit / 1.65TB BF16; Meta serves it on 4–8 B300s. The author calls Meta's marketing misleading: the touted dual 512GB Mac Studio setup isn't even on sale, and any workable local setup costs tens of thousands of dollars (four 256GB Mac Studios ≈ $38k). Includes a blog breaking down costs on Macs, mini PCs, RTX 5090s, and CPU servers.
