Gartner: 75% of Organizations Saw Unauthorized AI Coding Assistant Use
moniquejmorrow · x · 2026-10-16
A security-focused take on AI agent risk: the most dangerous agents in an organization may be the ones security teams don't even know exist. Gartner reports 75% of organizations have seen unauthorized use of AI coding assistants, and about half report employees accessing public SaaS GenAI agent platforms.
The author argues visibility is only the beginning — an agent's risk depends on what it can access and how much autonomy it has. An agent handling public information differs fundamentally from one that can act across sensitive systems. As AI embeds into daily work, organizations need to know which agents exist, what they can reach, and how their behavior changes over time.
