University of Waterloo researchers ran nearly 55,000 prompts through 11 AI models and found a strong status quo bias: models were 7.5x more likely to recommend keeping things as they are, and backed an existing plan 70% of the time vs only 34% when framed as new. The paper is published in Environmental Research Communications.
