Scale's Muse Spark Open claims strongest US open-weight model: 816B params, 1M context
bansalg_ · x · 2026-10-16
Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang announced Muse Spark Open, calling it the most capable US open-weight model to date: 816B total params with 42B active, 1M-token context, natively multimodal, and built for coding and agentic work like long-horizon tasks, hard software engineering and multi-step reasoning. Nat Lambert adds that if scores hold, adoption will go gangbusters — the first US open-weight model with near-frontier agentic capabilities (following the step change from China's GLM 5.2 and Kimi K3). Benchmarks still await third-party verification.
