Anthropic grants METR employee-like access to independently evaluate its safety practices
thesaraharminta · x · 2026-10-16
Anthropic announced it has given six METR employees 'employee-like access' — company hardware, office space, and internal tools roughly on par with its own risk assessment teams. Outside narrow categories (customer data, attorney-client privilege, model architecture info), employees are encouraged to share information with them freely.
METR can publish its analysis of Anthropic's risk levels and practices without veto, though Anthropic can require narrow, pre-defined redactions that METR may publicly critique. Andrew Curran notes such blog posts typically precede the release of a shockingly capable new model.
