Anthropic grants METR employee-like access as independent safety evaluators go public
AnthropicAI · x · 2026-10-16
Anthropic announced it has given employee-like access to a METR team for independent evaluation of its frontier models and safety practices, with METR set to publish its risk assessments. The company is also working with SecureBio and Accenture, and in early talks with others including Hugging Face. Anthropic outlines what evaluators need: frontier-model expertise (e.g. spotting alignment faking), independence, and deep access — aiming to close the gap between what outside evaluators and the company itself know, without exposing commercially sensitive or dangerous information. The move follows its pledge under the White House Accord to partner with external auditors.
