Perplexity open-sources SPACE sandbox; 108 escape attempts by frontier models all failed

Perplexity open-sourced SPACE (Sandboxed Platform for Agentic Code Execution), the first component of its Agentic Runtime Platform, under Apache 2.0. The pluggable-runtime sandbox isolates agent and user code, built in Rust with Firecracker templates and supply-chain tooling. In "Escaping SPACE: Part I," nine frontier-model configurations with root inside the VM made 108 escape attempts — none reached the host.
