Anthropic now merges 30,000 code changes a day, reviews code by 'intent' not lines

Anthropic's engineering blog details how daily merged code changes jumped from 2,500 in May to over 30,000 in September, bottlenecking human-scale developer infrastructure. The team built a new in-house version control system and fully migrated its monorepo off git in five months.
The striking shift, highlighted by Nathan Calvin: reviewers still check every change request, but now examine the intent of a change rather than reading the code line by line — placing enormous trust in correctly interpreting Claude's intentions as agent-written code scales.
