Proof launches x401, first protocol letting AI agents prove who they represent
csuwildcat · x · 2026-10-15
Proof launched x401, an open protocol and the first production implementation of verified legal identity and transaction authorization for AI agents. Any website can ask an agent to prove who it acts for and what the user approved, unlocking legally sensitive flows like wire transfers and payment mandates. The launch follows Amazon's blocking of Meta's Muse from its marketplace, which exposed the agent-identity problem, and FinCEN's September guidance recognizing verifiable credentials. Centered on an agent identity wallet, x401 works with MCP-supporting assistants including Meta Muse, ChatGPT, Grok and Claude, with pay-per-use verification.
