Nature Genetics study: euchromatin forms condensed domains with active regions on the surface
anshulkundaje · x · 2026-10-15
An MIT team (Paggi, Long, Zhang) published in Nature Genetics a simulation framework using region-capture micro-C contact maps to infer megabase-scale chromatin conformations at nucleosome resolution, with a novel micro-C balancing strategy. Simulations reproduce chromatin-tracing distance distributions and imaging-observed packing domains. Key finding: euchromatin generally forms condensed domains as dense as heterochromatin but smaller, with kilobase-scale active promoters and enhancers on domain surfaces — overturning the classical view of uniformly open euchromatin.
