Antithesis opens deterministic time-travel debugging to AI agents for reliable systems
moarbugs · x · 2026-10-15
Testing platform Antithesis shipped a release that opens its deterministic environment to AI agents, aiming to make prompts like 'Claude, build me a cloud platform; make no mistakes' actually work.
Key capabilities:
- Bit-for-bit repro: any bug found in Antithesis comes with a perfect deterministic repro of the exact scenario.
- Time-travel debugging: the Multiverse Debugger lets you rewind to any nanosecond in a bug's history, open a deterministic terminal, inspect state, extract files, test hypotheses, or 'branch time' to try different commands.
- Previously manual-only, the feature is now exposed to agents so agent-written software can be validated against real-world conditions before shipping.
The team cites a real etcd bug as an example, arguing that with agents outwriting human review capacity, running software for evidence beats having another agent read the diff.
