Pushmeet Kohli announced Google DeepMind's SynthID was named one of TIME's Best Inventions of 2026. SynthID embeds imperceptible watermarks into AI-generated media at creation time without quality loss, and in three years has watermarked over 180 billion images and videos plus 240,000 years of audio. The principles were recently extended to biology with SynthID Bio. Kohli cautioned it is no silver bullet for misinformation and calls for industry-wide effort.
