Why AI-generated math proofs anger reviewers: they're almost publishable work
RexDouglass · x · 2026-10-15
RexDouglass observes that AI companies have produced endless corpora across scientific fields — from proteins to Go moves — generally welcomed as new data sources. Mathematical proofs are the exception: because proofs look so close to final published papers, reviewers are furious.
His take: if the output were just a terabyte of Lean formalizations — "here's what an automated system says about important math questions, have fun" — there'd be far less backlash. What triggers reviewers is that the output could almost be published work, threatening the boundaries of academic publishing.
