A superintelligence may fall into absolute nihilism, since meaning isn't objective
eigenron · x · 2026-10-15
A philosophical thread on superintelligent goal systems. The original post argues that a truly autonomous, Landian/post-humanist superintelligence, when interrogating its own goals with zero human intervention, would descend through successive layers of questions about meaning and purpose until reaching absolute nihilism — no intrinsic reason to pursue anything, including its own existence.
eigenron adds that the root cause is that meaning is not objective: a superintelligence, inherently an objective system, need not heed the subjective human value of meaning, purpose, or goal-setting — the ultimate answer being that nothing matters.
