10 agents fixed a 48M-row database, killing a 34-second dashboard load

Thariq Shihipar, an engineer at Anthropic, paired Claude Code with REA to rebuild the queries behind a 48M-row database and fix a dashboard that took 34 seconds to open.
- Agents got a database snapshot and a week of query logs; every change had to return identical data to count as an improvement
- REA grouped similar traces and routed them; 10 agents split the work: 3 analyzed expensive queries and execution plans, 3 rewrote queries and tested indexes, 2 compared old vs new results, 2 replayed dashboard sessions and checked write performance
- Logs narrowed to 18 recurring query patterns, including a screen loading a customer's entire history just to show one total, and a calculation repeated per chart that was consolidated into one
