The Institute for Law & AI (LawAI), an independent think tank on AI's legal challenges, is hiring a Director of Academic Programs and an Academic Programs Manager ($100K–$280K, Cambridge/DC/remote, deadline Nov 1, 2026) to expand support for researchers doing legal and policy work on advanced AI—potentially including grantmaking, fiscal sponsorship, and dedicated compute.
LawAI has grown from 28 to 40 staff and plans to grow 1.5x again in 2027. Its director advised the European AI Office on the GPAI Code of Practice, and the institute published Law-Following AI in the Fordham Law Review. Its 2025 Summer Research Fellowship drew nearly 5,000 applicants—7x the prior year—with alumni now at the European AI Office, the UK AI Security Institute, and leading labs.
