Open-source Vecta makes PLAUD recorders fully local on Mac: no cloud, no 300-minute cap

A developer released Vecta, a free, open-source (Apache-2.0) native macOS app that turns PLAUD recorders into a fully local recording + AI pipeline, bypassing the official 300 free transcription minutes per month.
- Fully automatic: once set up, the recorder near your Mac triggers detection, transfer, timestamped transcription, speaker diarization, voice-profile naming, and text/visual summaries — no iPhone needed.
- Self-built P2P connectivity: custom BLE communication and local Wi-Fi Fast Transfer, so audio never touches the cloud, third-party services, or the PLAUD SDK.
- Local AI stack: WhisperKit large-v3 Turbo for speech, SpeakerKit for diarization, MLX Qwen3.5 4B/9B for summaries and the assistant; inference workers run under a deny-network policy. Requires Apple Silicon, macOS 15+, 8GB unified memory for 4B or 16GB for 9B.
- Caveats: PLAUD controls Partner approval timing; unbinding performs a factory reset that erases recordings on the device.
