Google details Geospatial Reasoning agent combining Earth AI models to outperform standalone LLMs
algo_diver · x · 2026-10-15
Google Research shared a new technical report on its Geospatial Reasoning agent at the Research@ event.
- The approach combines domain-specific foundation models (remote sensing, weather, flood hydrology, population dynamics) with spatial tools and upfront planning, enabling complex spatial analysis and planetary-scale prediction that standalone LLMs can't do
- Two new benchmarks, GeoKTools and GeoExpertQueries, were released alongside systematic evaluations across four benchmarks, quantifying the value of specialized tools and planning over out-of-the-box LLMs
- The system supports multi-step reasoning over planet-scale data and autonomous training of custom predictive models
- Tested with partners including a WHO regional office; experimental access expanding via Ask Google Earth and an Agent-to-Agent (A2A) service
