Dev reimplements Anthropic's Scion source control in Rust, open-sources it
aigclink · x · 2026-10-15
After Anthropic revealed Scion—built because agent-driven merges grew from 2,500/day in May to 30,000+/day in September—a developer open-sourced an independent Rust clean-room implementation.
- Core design: server holds full history and handles Commit/Rebase/Merge; agent clients fetch only what they need, no full clone—a server-first architecture for always-online agents instead of local-first Git.
- Benchmarks (Apple M4 Pro/24GB, 1k-10k synthetic files): directory import 7.8-11.5x faster, full checkout 1.4x faster, but single-file commits still slower than Git and 10k-file sparse checkout slightly worse.
- Roadmap: region caching, daemon snapshot bootstrap, virtualized checkout, filesystem watcher, copy detection.
