Microsoft's MAI-Image-2.6 and Flash land on Vercel AI Gateway with one API key

Microsoft's MAI-Image-2.6 and the faster MAI-Image-2.6-Flash arrived on Vercel's AI Gateway on October 13, letting developers use one API key without a separate provider account.
- Accessible via the AI SDK, an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, or the AI CLI for both generation and editing
- Supports photorealistic imagery, in-image text, and targeted edits to products, portraits, and layouts
- Accepts up to five reference images; outputs up to 1536×1536
- Flash suits rapid iteration
The author suggests a teaching exercise: run the same prompt on both models, then one edit pass changing a single object, and note which model keeps the rest of the frame steadier.
