Boston Dynamics shows Atlas factory: one robot a day today, one hour targeted next year
CyberRobooo · x · 2026-10-15
Boston Dynamics has opened up the shop floor where it builds the Atlas humanoid: machining, assembly, and repairs all happen in-house, so engineers can tweak a design, machinists cut the part, and the team fit-tests it the same day.
- Building an Atlas currently takes about a day; the target is one hour next year, eventually minutes
- Hyundai Motor Group is targeting a US robot factory with 30,000 units/year capacity by 2028 and plans to deploy 25,000+ Atlas robots across Hyundai and Kia plants
- All 2026 output is allocated to Hyundai's RMAC training center and Google DeepMind; external customers expected from 2027
- RMAC sits at Hyundai's Metaplant in Georgia, starting with parts sorting, factory ops targeted for 2028; factory data could feed back into DeepMind's models
- Hyundai has discussed selling robots through its car dealership network
Open questions remain: manufacturing cost, reliability, and whether factory data translates into consistent line performance.
