"DeepSeek didn't believe in scaling" is the most enraging DeepSeek disinformation, argues teortaxesTex
teortaxesTex · x · 2026-10-15
teortaxesTex rebuts the widespread claim that DeepSeek never believed compute scaling leads to AGI (with only Anthropic "getting it right"). Citing Liang Wenfeng's interview: DeepSeek believed in scaling from day one — "as much compute as I can get" — and its limited model sizes were purely resource-constrained, not strategic. "We haven't had the chance to hit the scaling wall; it's still far away." Liang says the direction was clear after GPT-3 in 2020, and DeepSeek was building its own compute (Firefly II) as early as 2021.
