Apple to bring Apple Intelligence to China in December with Alibaba models, no new Siri

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple plans to launch Apple Intelligence in mainland China in December via iOS 27.3, though neither Apple nor regulators have confirmed. The China release includes the 2024 US launch features — notification summaries, Writing Tools, Clean Up in Photos, first-gen Genmoji — but not the new Gemini-based Siri, Image Playground, or other 2025 features.
The China version runs on Alibaba models (Qwen and Tongyi Wanxiang approved), with safety guardrails co-developed by Apple and Alibaba requiring government approval for each model update; Baidu participates in search and Siri-related functions. The rollout has dragged for two years, including an accidental brief enablement in March, preliminary approval in July, and device licenses granted September 29. Supported iPhone models remain unannounced.
