CoreWeave crashes 16% as $35B debt load pushes bonds into distressed territory
peterwildeford · x · 2026-10-15
CoreWeave (CRWV) fell more than 16% in a day and is down over 50% in five months.
- Debt pressure: The company owes about $35B and paid $640M in interest last quarter alone. Investors are dumping its bonds — the 2032 notes are down 23% since June, trading at distressed levels.
- Soaring borrowing costs: Buyers of these bonds now earn over 15% a year, meaning that's what CoreWeave must pay to borrow.
- Funding gap: CoreWeave plans to spend $35B–$39B this year with only $5.5B in cash, forcing it to keep borrowing to keep building. Credit default swaps signal rising distress.
- Author Peter Wildeford notes the drop looks fairly normal for such a high-variance stock, but the cited data shows credit markets turning sharply against the company.
