2.6B Claude tokens in 81 days: dev shares real cost of building SessionDeck

sociosim · reddit · 2026-10-15

An indie dev breaks down the bill for SessionDeck, a VS Code/Cursor sidebar plugin: 81 days, 2.6B Claude tokens, 574M Codex tokens, 163 subagents—roughly $2,650 at API rates (actually paid via subscriptions; the real pain was hitting weekly limits). Workflow: Claude Code sessions wrote code while the author read diffs; 181 of 205 commits carry a Claude co-author line. Two sessions ran in separate git worktrees, a third acted as conductor merging PRs, and Codex reviewed about half the PRs by running tests locally. The product lists all Claude Code sessions per project, with a red bell for ones awaiting permission prompts; Codex and cursor-agent sessions are tracked too. Caveats: bell is Claude Code-only (needs a one-time hooks install), status is inferred from transcripts so slightly laggy, Mac mostly works, native Windows lacks approval alerts. Source is public under a source-available license.
