Eight US states — Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, West Virginia, Arkansas, Arizona, Idaho and Montana — have filed separate lawsuits accusing OpenAI of putting profits over safety and violating consumer protection laws by failing to warn users about ChatGPT's dangers. The complaints cite lawsuits from families alleging the chatbot played a role in the deaths of teens and adults, and claim OpenAI misled customers about its safety.
