Anthropic acqui-hires Opaque Systems team for confidential and verifiable AI
rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-10-15
Anthropic announced an acqui-hire with Opaque Systems: licensing its technology for running AI on confidential data and hiring engineers including CEO Aaron Fulkerson and CTO Rishabh Poddar.
Born from UC Berkeley's RISELab, Opaque closes the gap where standard encryption fails — data must be decrypted in memory for models to read it — by running AI jobs inside hardware-sealed enclaves. The company has expanded from confidential AI to verifiable AI, replacing trust assumptions with cryptographic evidence of what agents ran, where, and under what policies (AgenTrust, TRACE, Confidential MCP, Weight Custody Manifest).
