Microsoft open-sources ML tool that corrects weather model bias, extending reliable forecasts to 2-6 weeks

Microsoft researchers published a Nature paper and open-sourced a new tool that uses machine learning to correct bias in existing weather models, claiming reliable forecasts 2-6 weeks ahead — well beyond the 2-week limit of physics-based and current AI models.
Unlike Google and Nvidia's standalone AI weather models, Microsoft's approach retrofits existing models, making AI-enhanced forecasting far more affordable for resource-strapped weather agencies and useful for farmers and emergency planners.
