Korea clears 20 humanoid robots to work on real factory floors
emmanuelvivier · x · 2026-10-15
South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy granted a regulatory sandbox exemption allowing 20 bipedal humanoid robots from Robros to work alongside humans on real production lines — a first, loosening safety rules written for stationary industrial machines.
- Deployments at Nepes, Sungwoo Hitech, HD Hyundai Samho, and Delivery Lab: cleaning semiconductor parts, positioning auto body components, shipbuilding logistics
- Previously allowed only case-by-case; test data will be used to rewrite safety standards for broader manufacturing adoption
- Context: the US and China are already racing to deploy humanoids; Korea is betting on skilled workers to build a behavioral data advantage
