Inside Build-A-Chip-Bench: testing AI agents from spec to verified GDS with NVIDIA
WilliamWangNLP · x · 2026-10-15
ChipAgents' press release details the motivation and framework behind Build-A-Chip-Bench: today's agents can generate RTL and complete individual tasks, but real chip design requires synthesis, timing closure, place-and-route, power/area constraints, and physical verification before tapeout.
Built with NVIDIA, the benchmark tests whether AI agents can carry an end-to-end digital design task from specification through physical implementation to verified GDS, jointly meeting functional, timing, power, area, and physical-verification requirements. Initial evaluations reveal a significant gap between functionally valid and physically viable designs, setting a measurable target for autonomous semiconductor engineering.
